The Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarships is available for international applicants with the aim of stimulating excellent international MSc students and financially supporting them in their wish to study at TU Delft.

Justus & Louise Van Effen Excellence Scholarships are financed by the legacy of Justus and Louise van Effen. Mr. van Effen studied at TU Delft in the 1940’s and strongly believed technological developments will contribute to solving societal issues.

Extent of Justus & Louise Van Effen Excellence Scholarships

Full tuition fees per year for a TU Delft MSc programme based on the statutory fee or institutional rate, according to the registered nationality, AND contribution for the living expenses.

Requirements For Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarships

To be considered for the Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarships, you must:

  • Have an excellent international applicant (conditionally) admitted to one of the 2-year regular TU Delft MSc programmes (not a Joint Education Programme).
  • have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 80 percent or higher of the scale maximum.
  • have a bachelor degree from an internationally renowned university outside of The Netherlands.
  • have submitted a complete MSc application before the scholarship deadline.

Reward For Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarships

The scholarship include full tuition fees per year for a TU Delft MSc programme based on the statutory fee or institutional rate, according to the registered nationality, AND contribution for the living expenses.

Granting

Students who have been granted a scholarship will be informed by TU Delft via email by the end of March 2024.

Receiving the scholarship is conditional on the student fulfilling all admission criteria.

Required Documents for Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarships

To apply, candidates must be submit the following together with the MSc Application:

1. Complete your MSc application (check the admission requirements)
2. Upload the Scholarship Application Form
3. Upload two reference letters

  • You can upload your reference letters during your MSc application (as one PDF document), according to the indicated requirement.

And/or

  • You can request the reference letters from your referee(s). Fill out the information about your referee/s and invite them by using the ‘send invitation button’. The referee(s) will receive an automatic email inviting him/her to upload a reference for you.
  • You can combine both procedures. E.g. 1 upload and 1 referee request.
  • Reference letters will not be considered if you have already submitted your application.
  • Reference letters will not be accepted after the Scholarship deadline 1 December, 2024

4. Upload the English language certificate

Student Success Stories

Ömer Taha Döver (24) is a master’s student at TU Delft, the Netherlands where he is pursuing a degree in Strategic Product Design. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, he was awarded the Justus and Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship by the Justus and Louise van Effen Foundation. Before embarking on his graduate studies, Ömer earned a Bachelor’s degree from Istanbul Technical University and gained valuable experience working as a strategist in purpose-driven innovation for a year. He also completed an exchange program at TU Delft during his undergraduate studies, which sparked his passion for design and innovation. Ömer’s design work has been recognized with numerous awards & accolades, and has been featured in exhibitions by leading organizations in the design and innovation fields. He is committed to using his skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on society and create a sustainable future.

Berkay Onur Türk (he/him/his) is an alumnus of TU Delft’s Technology, Policy and Management faculty. Born in Turkey in 1997, Berkay received a full scholarship based on merit to pursue his high school studies at American Collegiate Institute (ACI) in his home country. He subsequently pursued a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, with a minor in Economics, at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. During his undergraduate studies in 2019, Berkay spent six months as an exchange student at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. Berkay returned to the Netherlands in 2020 as a recipient of Justus and Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship, which allowed him to pursue his master’s studies at TU Delft. While completing his master’s degree in Complex Systems Engineering and Management, Berkay also worked as a student assistant at the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. In addition, he was elected as a member of the Faculty Student Council (FSC) in his second year of studies. Upon graduating cum laude from the master’s program, Berkay embarked on his career as a strategy consultant. However, his passion for advancing the impact of education on society led him to take on a new challenge as a Project Manager at Eindhoven University of Technology.

Mythili is currently studying in the department of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials engineering at TU Delft. She completed her undergraduate degree in Mechanical engineering in India, and went on to complete an MSc in Acoustical engineering at the University of Southampton, UK. Having developed an interest in biomechanics through her master’s project which involved cochlear mechanics, she worked as a researcher in the same area for a few years in India. Mythili is keen on continuing a career in research and was awarded the Justus and Louise van Effen excellence scholarship in 2022 to study Biomedical engineering at TU Delft.

Adalberto de Paula, hailing from Brazil and born in 1992, is an alumnus of TU Delft Faculty of Architecture & the Built Environment. His remarkable accomplishments during his bachelor’s studies at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul led him to earn the Justus and Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship. This achievement came after gaining four years of professional experience as an Architect in São Paulo. Throughout his undergraduate journey, he secured two additional scholarships that provided him with the opportunity to partake in architectural exchange programs at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, the University of New Mexico, and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. For his TU Delft master’s degree in Building Technology, Adalberto delved into researching automated strategies for computational design and digital fabrication. This research aimed to facilitate the advancement of robotic construction methods for discrete timber components used in housing. Adalberto’s design prowess has garnered him award nominations and acknowledgments while has been prominently featured in exhibitions at innovation-focused events associated with TU Delft. Upon completing his education, Adalberto is committed to leveraging his expertise to drive positive, circular impacts on society and contribute significantly to the establishment of a sustainable future.
