A record-breaking One Hundred and Thirty-Nine (139) Students of Lagos State University have been named to the United Nation’s Millennium Fellows Programme for 2024. This is in addition to the selection of LASU as one of the 280+ campuses to host this year’s Millennium Fellows programme.
In the recently published outcome of the competitive selection process for the Class of 2024, of the 52,000 young leaders who applied from 170 nations of the world, only 6,000 were picked, 139 of which were LASU students. Also, of the 6,000+ campuses that applied to host the programme, only about 280+ campuses from 48 nations were picked, one of which is LASU.
The Millennium Fellowship Class of 2024 is an ambitious programme of the Millennium Campus Network (MCN) and the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) to make the Sustainable Development Goals and UNAI principles a reality.
Millennium Fellows across the world will embark on a semester-long journey to build the skills necessary for a career rooted in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. They will also be expected to undertake a social impact  project – either as individuals or in groups – to advance one or more of the 17 SDGs and 10 UNAI principles.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, in a congratulatory message to the students, said their selection is a testament to their dedication and the belief that nothing is impossible when they set their minds to it. She urged them to fully embrace the opportunity and strive for excellence throughout its duration.
