How FUD Cut-Off Marks Influence Your Chances
The journey to securing admission into the Federal University Dutse (FUD) begins with a crucial understanding of the role that cut-off marks play in the admission process.
At its core, a cut-off mark is a minimum score set by the university for each course, which determines whether a candidate qualifies for further consideration.
For many students, meeting or exceeding the cut-off mark can seem like the end goal, but it’s important to realize that this is just the starting point. Reaching the cut-off mark grants you eligibility for the next stages of the admission process, such as the post-UTME screening.
However, because FUD attracts a large number of applicants each year, merely meeting the cut-off mark might not be enough—especially for popular courses like Medicine, Law, or Engineering. In such cases, the higher your score above the cut-off, the better your chances of standing out among other candidates.
By aiming to exceed the cut-off mark, you increase your likelihood of not only being admitted but also being admitted into the course of your choice.

What to Do If You Don’t Meet the FUD Cut-Off Marks
Not meeting the FUD cut-off mark can be a major setback, especially after months of preparation and anticipation. However, it’s important to remember that falling short of the cut-off doesn’t spell the end of your academic journey. Instead, it opens up a different set of opportunities and alternative pathways that you can explore to achieve your educational goals.
First, consider whether you can apply for a less competitive course within the same university. FUD, like many other universities, has varying cut-off marks for different programs. While courses like Medicine or Law may require exceptionally high scores, other programs in the sciences, arts, or social sciences might have lower thresholds. If you’re open to adjusting your course preference, this could be a viable option.
Another option is to look into FUD’s pre-degree programs. These programs are designed to provide students with the necessary academic preparation to meet the university’s requirements. Successfully completing a pre-degree program can improve your chances of gaining admission in the next academic session.
You can also consider transferring to another institution where your current score meets the cut-off mark. Additionally, taking a gap year to improve your JAMB score for the next application cycle is a strategy many students successfully employ. During this time, you can focus on rigorous preparation, perhaps seeking out tutoring or attending intensive JAMB coaching sessions, to ensure you surpass the cut-off mark the next time around.
FUD Departmental Cut-Off Mark
FUD departmental cut-off mark is usually different from their JAMB cut-off mark. The departmental cut-off mark is the final mark that will determine a candidate’s admission.
For years now, FUD has not made its departmental merit/ELDS/Catchment cutoff mark public.
If we should judge with previous years, then we will be right to say the FUD departmental cut-off mark for the 2024/2025 session will not be made public. But if they do make it public, we will update this page as soon as possible.
We wish you the best of luck in your academic pursuit.
How FUD Evaluates Students for Admission
While cut-off marks are often seen as the primary hurdle in gaining admission to FUD, the reality is that the university’s admission process is far more comprehensive. FUD takes a holistic approach to evaluating prospective students, ensuring that those who are admitted not only meet academic criteria but also demonstrate potential for success in their chosen fields.
After surpassing the JAMB cut-off mark, FUD places significant emphasis on O’Level results. A candidate’s performance in relevant subjects—especially those related to their desired course of study—can strongly influence their chances of admission. For example, a student applying for a course in engineering must have strong grades in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
