  • Validate your English language skills with official test results or other documentation that meets the requirements.
  • Active Email Address: Throughout the procedure, this must be verified on a frequent basis.
  • For those who are chosen, proof of residency is necessary.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates for MESPOM must have graduated from an accredited university or other higher education institution with a first degree (a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, requiring three years of full-time study).
  • Applicants who have not yet received their degree must produce documents suggesting they will do so by the time of enrolling in MESPOM.
  • The first degree ought to be in a closely related discipline, such as environmental studies. Applicants holding degrees in alternative fields, like:
    • studies on agriculture
    • social sciences
    • Administrative and legal research
    • Engineering & Economics
    • Scientific natural sciences
  • These applicants will be taken into consideration if they can show that they are dedicated to addressing environmental issues through professional or volunteer activity as well as on-the-job training.
  • Successful candidates usually have a GPA from an accredited university or other higher education institution of at least 3.5.
Requirements for Language
  • Candidates must prove their English language skills.
  • It is required of those whose first language is not English to submit results from standardized English language tests.
  • Accepted tests consist of:
    • The Manchester subtest requires a score of 90, while the minimum necessary for the Internet-based TOEFL is 88.
    • Minimum score of 570 on the paper-based TOEFL exam.
    • Minimum IELTS Academic score of 6.5, with Manchester requiring no subtest to score lower than 6.0.
    • Pearson Academic English Test: Minimum score of 59, with a total score of 70 and a minimum of 65 in each area for Manchester.
    • A minimum score of 180 is required for Cambridge English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency.
    • Pass the academic Euroexam, but you won’t be allowed to take the Manchester track.
    • The Manchester track does not accept scores below 125 on the Duolingo English test.
    • Tests must be taken no more than two years prior to application, with Manchester track applicants subject to additional restrictions.
Exemptions for the English Language
  • Generally, applicants who speak English as their first language are excused from the competency criterion.
  • If the applicant has a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree that was taught solely in English, they might also be eligible for an exemption.
  • The MESPOM admissions committee will make the final judgment on any written requests for exemptions, which must be submitted with the application package.
Exclusions and Unique Situations
  • In extraordinary circumstances, admission to the university may be extended to applicants who do not fulfill the minimal requirements for English proficiency, pending approval of the Provost/Pro-Rector and the departmental admissions committee.
  • The MESPOM consortium may request extra evidence of English language proficiency.
  • Additional language requirements may apply to the University of Manchester, as UK immigration only accepts certain examinations, such as:
    • IELTS Academic
    • Pearson Academic
    • Cambridge English C1/C2
    • TOEFL iBT (not the Home Edition)
  • Manchester must get test results by July 31st, the day before the UK period.

  • MESPOM admissions are handled by Central European University (CEU).
