Accreditation Achievement
The NUC’s report, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of UNIJOS, Professor Tanko Ishaya, and signed by the Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, confirmed the accreditation results. Out of the programmes evaluated, twenty-three undergraduate programmes received Full Accreditation status, while two received Interim Accreditation. Additionally, the only postgraduate programme reviewed was granted Full Accreditation. This means that approximately 93.3% of the university’s seventy-five academic programmes now hold Full Accreditation status.
Significance of Full Accreditation
Full Accreditation status from the NUC signifies that the academic programmes meet the minimum academic standards and comply with government and industry guidelines. It ensures high-quality training for students, preparing them for successful careers. A programme with Full Accreditation can operate for at least five academic sessions before the next evaluation to maintain its relevance and quality.
Accredited Programmes
The following programmes at UNIJOS have received Full Accreditation:
- Mass Communication
- Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Archaeology
- History & International Studies
- Computer Science

Two undergraduate programmes, Biochemistry and Geology, were granted Interim Accreditation. The university is working diligently to address the identified shortcomings to secure Full Accreditation for these programmes in the next evaluation.
Vice-Chancellor’s Remarks
Professor Tanko Ishaya expressed his delight at the news, noting that graduates from UNIJOS will be more favourably viewed by employers, as Full Accreditation indicates that a programme meets industry expectations and standards. He encouraged academics and researchers at the university to increase their international visibility, thereby enhancing the university’s reputation, attracting research grants, donor funding, and international collaborations.

Professor Tanko Ishaya commended the efforts of everyone involved in achieving this feat, particularly the Director and staff of the Directorate of Academic Planning and Management, Deans, Heads of Departments, staff, and students of the affected faculties and departments, as well as other members of the university community.
UNIJOS continues to strive for excellence in education, ensuring that its students receive the highest quality training and preparation for their future careers.
